Ahmedabad City Police has launched a drive against helmet and seatbelt rule violators, penalising hundreds of government employees on Tuesday morning outside government offices. The action is part of a statewide crackdown ordered by the Director General of Police (DGP) to enforce traffic regulations among government officials.

Part of a larger campaign to enforce traffic discipline, 660 cases registered on Tuesday morning

Conducted across multiple key locations, including the Collector’s Office and the Police Commissioner’s Office, an operation on Tuesday led to 660 cases being registered and ₹3.30 lakh collected in penalties. Even police personnel were not exempt, with 72 cases filed against them for noncompliance, while 575 cases were registered against civilian government employees.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce road accident fatalities, with government employees targeted first to set an example for public compliance. "Government employees are considered responsible citizens and are looked up on as role models for others.” said the letter sent to senior police officers on Monday ordering the drive.

Authorities stress that government staffers must lead by example. The crackdown, part of a larger campaign to enforce traffic discipline, is expected to expand to other groups soon. Ahmedabad’s traffic department continues to focus on helmet compliance, as head injuries remain a leading cause of road fatalities.
