Ahmedabad commuters may soon get major relief from traffic congestion on SG Highway, as the 4-km-long elevated corridor connecting Sanand Circle to Iscon Flyover is nearing completion. The ₹500-crore project is expected to open around July 1 and is likely to significantly improve travel on one of the city’s busiest stretches. The corridor has been under construction for the past two years.
Designed to ease major bottlenecks
Once operational, the elevated corridor is expected to handle nearly two lakh vehicles daily. The flyover will allow commuters to bypass three of the stretch’s busiest traffic points, Karnavati Club, Prahladnagar and YMCA, improving traffic movement on SG Highway. Authorities have also incorporated a specialised noise-control system to reduce the impact of vehicular noise on nearby residential and commercial areas.
Diversion to end soon
Construction work over the past two years had led to a 1.5-km diversion on the route, often causing delays of 30 to 60 minutes, especially for commuters travelling from Saurashtra towards Ahmedabad. Officials now plan to shut the diversion and reopen the road beneath the flyover by June 1, improving connectivity towards Iscon Cross Roads even before the corridor officially opens.
