In a bold step towards green urban innovation, Gujarat is set to build a tropical forest dome along Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront. Inspired by Singapore’s Cloud Forest, this ₹22 crore project aims to bring the magic of misty rainforests right into the heart of the city.

Sabarmati's dome forest redefines urban green

Spread over 7,000 sq. meters near a sports complex on the river’s western bank, the dome will span 1,600 sq. meters and offer visitors the surreal experience of walking through a real tropical forest, complete with artificial rain, dense fog, and exotic plants like orchids, heliconias, and alocasia. The forest will use artificial intelligence to manage watering, lighting, and overall plant health, making it a futuristic blend of tech and nature.

Designed by Singapore-based firm Surbana Jurong, the dome is part of a massive 38-km riverfront expansion that includes international parks, ferry rides, green belts with over 2.35 lakh trees, and vibrant public spaces.

Already a lnadmark for cultural diplomacy, the Sabarmati Riverfront is poised to become a model of sustainable, people-first urban design, where city life meets the serenity of the jungle.
