The Kankaria Carnival 2024, organised by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), began with a record-breaking feat by municipal school students on Wednesday. On the carnival’s opening day, 1,200 municipal school students participated in a unique challenge to unwrap chocolates within a minute. Impressively, 1,196 students succeeded, setting a new Guinness World Record.

Mayor Pratibha Jain received the official certificate for the record in the presence of the Gujarat Chief Minister, marking an exciting start to the week-long carnival scheduled from the 25th to 31st of December.

However, the carnival took a sombre turn, following the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh. As a mark of respect, Central Government has declared seven days of national mourning. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has officially announced the cancellation of today’s events and the remainder of the carnival.

Notably, the popular Flower Show, originally scheduled to start on the 1st of January, has been rescheduled to begin on the 3rd of January.
