Knocksense Shorts | Gujarat implements ban on mobile phones in schools and colleges

The decision has been prompted by increasing concerns about mobile phones causing disturbances and distractions to the learning environment.

In a pioneering move, the Gujarat government has taken a significant step by prohibiting the use of mobile phones in schools and colleges. The state education department recently passed a resolution, strictly stating that students up to class XII must not carry mobile phones inside the school premises. Similarly, teachers, school staff, parents, and visitors are also forbidden from using phones in classrooms, libraries, laboratories, and other educational spaces.

While college students can bring their handsets to the institution, they will not be allowed to use them during their time on campus. The decision stems from growing concerns over mobile phones posing distractions and hindrances to the learning environment. To reinforce this policy, the Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO) has issued a notice, emphasizing the prohibition of mobile phone usage for teachers while they are engaged in their educational duties.
