Just 95 km from Ahmedabad, Vadnagar is a historic town with a past spanning over 2,500 years. Now, its rich legacy is showcased in India's largest archaeological excavation experiential museum, offering a unique and immersive experience.
5000+ rare artefacts, an actual excavation site & more!
Spread over 12,500 square metres and built at the cost of ₹298 crore, this state-of-the-art museum is home to more than 5,000 artefacts, from coins and weapons to sculptures, ceramics, and even skeletal remains. Every exhibit tells a story, revealing how people lived, traded, and evolved in this historic town. It has been developed by Union Culture Ministry and various departments of Gujarat government.
What makes this museum unique is its excavation site, which is linked to the museum by a bridge. Here, visitors can view the remains of an ancient fort wall and the original archaeological site next door.
Inside the museum, a glass floor is built over a replica of the excavation site, allowing visitors to see how Vadnagar’s streets and daily life evolved over time. The museum also features a reconstructed Brahman Sheri (narrow lane) at Ghaskol and a small Buddhist monastery, recently unearthed.
