Vantara, the world’s largest wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation centre, was recently inaugurated and visited by the Prime Minister in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district. Spanning approximately 3,000 acres within the green belt of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex, the facility aims to provide expert care for rescued, endangered, and threatened animals from across India and the world.

Located some 320 km from Ahmedabad, the centre is home to more than over 2,000 animals across 43 species. It has also undertaken a massive afforestation drive, planting over 25 million trees to enhance wildlife habitats. However, Vantara is not yet open to the public but will be shortly.

A major step forward in wildlife care and protection!

Launched in February 2024, Vantara is a large-scale conservation initiative conceptualised by Anant Ambani, Director at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Reliance Foundation. The project focuses on rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating injured animals while replicating natural habitats to help them thrive. It collaborates with international organisations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to advance research and conservation efforts.

The facility houses an Advanced Multi-Specialty Wildlife Hospital equipped with MRI, CT scans, ICUs, a Neonatal ICU, and specialised units for Wildlife Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endoscopy, Dentistry, and Internal Medicine. It also features a Hydrotherapy Pool for elephants suffering from arthritis and mobility issues.

Vantara houses several rare and unique species, including a two-headed snake, a two-headed turtle, Tapirs, Seals, Giant Otters, and Bongo antelopes. The centre also features the world’s largest elephant hospital, offering state-of-the-art medical treatment for rescued elephants.

With its extensive rescue efforts, advanced veterinary care, and conservation programs, Vantara is a major step forward in wildlife protection.
