The Gujarat Health Minister has announced a new Neurological Sciences Institute at Ahmedabad Civil Medicity. This state-of-the-art institute will focus on advanced treatment and research for neurological disorders while also providing specialised education and training for medical students. "The institute will be autonomous and will develop experts in neurology, neuroscience, and nervous system disorders," he stated.

With approximately 3,700 medical seats in Gujarat, the state records nearly 11 lakh OPD patients and 1.5 lakh hospital admissions annually. The new institute aims to strengthen Gujarat’s medical sector, further enhancing its growing reputation in healthcare.

Once operational, satellite centres will be set up across Gujarat to expand access to neurology treatment. Additionally, the Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute will establish new radiotherapy centres in Porbandar, Himmatnagar, Valsad, and Godhra to improve cancer care.

The government also plans to introduce palliative care wards in six civil hospitals, providing 60 beds for patients with terminal illnesses. Furthermore, the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology will extend neurology and cardiology services to Gandhinagar and Surat, along with satellite centres in Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
