Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro News: 7 new stations to open in 3 months, 14 in total this year

Easier access for commuters between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar soon!

The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro is set for a major expansion with 14 new stations expected to become operational this year, significantly improving connectivity and increasing passenger footfall. Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) officials have confirmed that seven stations will be operational within the next two to three months, with the remaining seven expected to be functional by the end of the year.

Know about the new routes

The newly-opened stations will provide easier access for residents and professionals commuting between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Among the first stations to open are Koteshwar Road, Vishwakarma College, Tapovan Circle, Narmada Canal, Koba Circle, Sector 10-A, and Sachivalaya. Mahatma Mandir Station is also expected to be operational by the end of the year, further catering to the increasing number of daily commuters.

With the metro expansion, train frequency is expected to rise. Currently, each trip accommodates 150 seated passengers, but with standing capacity, it can hold up to 800 commuters.

Recent data indicates that 2,200 to 2,500 passengers use the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro daily, and these numbers are expected to grow. Metro trips have increased from eight to 14. With growing infrastructure along the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar corridor, passenger numbers are expected to surge.
