The 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships will be held in Ahmedabad from April 1 till 10, the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) confirmed on Wednesday. India secured the hosting rights last year during the Asian Weightlifting Federation’s annual Congress. This edition will be the first to follow the International Weightlifting Federation’s revised weight categories.

Initially slated for Gandhinagar, the event has been shifted to Ahmedabad. This will be the city’s second major international weightlifting competition, with the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships also scheduled there in August.

Ahmedabad is rapidly emerging as a major sports hub, with infrastructure development underway in preparation for the 2036 Olympics. India has also formally submitted a bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in the city.
