In a big step towards making cab services greener and eco-friendly, TATA Motors have signed on the dotted line on an MoU with Uber, giving the ridesharing company 25,000 units of its XPRES-T electric vehicles. A share of the same soon be seen ferrying passengers to their destination in Ahmedabad.

XPRES-T EVs will join Uber fleets in a phased manner

As per the signed MoU, TATA Motors will start sending their electric vehicles to Uber in a phased manner, starting from February. Furthermore, these vehicles will then be added to Uber fleets in Ahmedabad, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Commenting on the vision behind the partnership, representative from TATA and Uber reiterated their company's commitment to sustainability. Furthermore, the addition of 25k TATA XPRES-T Electrical Vehicles to its fleet will also take Uber closer to its goal of ensuring that all its rides take place in zero-emission vehicles by the year 2050.

For Amdavadis, this partnership would not only mean more electric cabs on the streets along with lesser carbon emissions, it will eventually also mean cleaner air to breathe in. In view of Ahmedabad's AQI, which has been reaching 'poor' levels recently, this partnership can only be called a welcome step.
