An Amdavadi winter classic you must try!

Zeal Jani

Winter in Ahmedabad brings more than just a pleasant nip in the air—it brings with it a craving for warm, indulgent treats that make the season special. One such delicacy that has been cherished by locals for decades is Dudh no Halwo, and when it comes to this winter favourite, Chandrika Dairy is the undisputed OG!

A Jodhpur recipe perfected for Amadvadis!

Started in 1966, Chandrika Dairy has been a beloved spot for generations of Amdavadis. The secret to its success lies in its signature Dudh no Halwo, a recipe that was brought all the way from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Over the years, the dairy has perfected this rich, caramelised dessert, making it an essential for locals.

Made from slow-cooked milk and sugar, the Dudh no Halwo strikes the perfect balance between sweetness and richness, with a texture that melts in your mouth.

While Chandrika Dairy also offers a variety of other traditional sweets like Kesar Basundi, Rabdi, and Mawa, the Dudh no Halwo remains the local favourite. Its perfectly caramelised flavour and warm, comforting aroma are best enjoyed fresh and hot, right outside the shop on a chilly evening!

Knock Knock!

Today, the dairy is run by Mr. Prem Singh, easily recognised by his signature black glasses! He continues to uphold the legacy of this family-owned business, serving customers with the same dedication that has kept Chandrika Dairy thriving for nearly six decades.

For anyone seeking an authentic taste of Ahmedabad’s rich flavours, Chandrika Dairy’s Dudh no Halwo is more than just a dessert—it’s a tradition that has stood the test of time!
