Ahmedabad has been experiencing cold conditions over the last three days, with chilly winds from the north-east to east adding to the winter chill. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature on Friday dropped to 26°C, 3.2°C below the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 13.3°C.
Cold winds blowing at 8–10 km/h during the day made it feel colder despite no drastic change in temperature. Humidity levels also saw a sharp decline, from 49% in the morning to 21% by evening. IMD predicts similar conditions for the next two to three days, with today’s maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be around 27°C and 13°C, respectively.
In response to the chilly weather, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has adjusted school timings for its 451 schools. Morning schools will now start at 7:55 AM instead of 7:30 AM. The new schedule, implemented at the request of parents, aims to protect students from the early-morning cold.
These revised timings will remain in place until the 15th of January, with corresponding adjustments made for afternoon shifts to ensure minimal disruption to students’ academic activities.
