Ahmedabad will host the 11th Asian Swimming Championship at the Naranpura Sports Complex from October 1 to 15, 2025, marking the first time this prestigious event will be held in India. The announcement was made by the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) on Thursday.

Swimmers from powerhouse nations such as Japan and South Korea are expected to compete in the continental event, which will include swimming, diving, artistic swimming, and water polo. “We have received in-principle approval from the Gujarat government and Asia Aquatics. The MoU is currently in its early stages and is expected to be finalised by March or mid-April,” said Monal Chokshi, Secretary-General of the Swimming Federation of India.

The championship is a major milestone for Indian swimming, as the country last hosted an international swimming event during the 10th Asian Age Group Championships in 2019. The newly built Naranpura Sports Complex, which is expected to be completed next month, is designed as an Olympic-standard venue for multiple sports, including swimming and wrestling. The facility is a key part of Ahmedabad’s ambitious bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

As a preparatory step, the National Junior Championship will serve as a test event before the Asian Championship. With India stepping onto the global aquatic sports stage, this event is expected to boost the country’s presence in competitive swimming and pave the way for future international events.
