Violators will now have to pay fines on the spot.

Zeal Jani

To streamline traffic fine collection and curb payment delays, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police has rolled out 250 new Point of Sale (POS) machines across the city. Distributed among the city’s 14 traffic police stations, these machines enable g on-the-spot challan generation and fine recovery. Part of a state-wide initiative, 500 POS devices have been introduced in four major cities, including Ahmedabad.

The system allows violators to pay fines instantly using cash, debit/credit cards, or QR codes, addressing common excuses such as lack of cash or online payment issues.

Ahmedabad has long relied on digital tools like CCTV cameras and speed guns to monitor violations. However, the fine collection has been a challenge, with only 25% of over ₹100 crores in fines recovered. With POS machines, recovery rates are expected to improve significantly.

Equipped with advanced features like cameras to capture violators’ images and multiple payment options, the machines ensure a smoother process. Head constables and ASIs have been trained to operate them efficiently.
