A rare sight was witnessed over Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, as flamingos were seen flocking to the spot earlier than usual this year. Owing to the conducive water levels, these birds, which usually migrate here around October-November, have posted an early check-in.

Maintaining the ideal water level was made possible by the staff of the sanctuary who constantly monitor the area to keep check on water flowed from Narmada River.

As per officials, the staff here regularly visits Nani Katechi, Parali, Vadla, Ranagadh, and Mulbavla villages to keep a check on the release of Narmada water. They ensure that excess water does not flow into the lake. However, if excess water is released, Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam (SSNL) is immediately contacted to halt the supply.

Right now, since the water level is just perfect, one can find birds such as flamingos, black-tailed godwits and species of sandpipers flying around. Some of the young migratory birds often stay back to enjoy the comfortable environment.
