Goan residents get some relief from the scorching heat on Wednesday as the state witnessed a drop in maximum temperature by 2˚C to 3˚C with cloudy weather keeping the sun at bay. IMD predicted mild rains and thundershowers at scattered pockets in Goa on May 12 and 13, accompanied with winds occasionally gusting at around 30kmph.

IMD observed that this change in weather was likely due to the after-effects of cyclone Asani over the Bay of Bengal. As per an IMD scientist, the cyclone in the Bay of Bengal resulted in westerlies to flow at lower level, causing moisture incursion over different parts of Goa, therefore bringing isolated light rain over parts of the state.

According to IMD’s 10-day weather forecast released on Tuesday, light to moderate rain and thunder showers are expected to engulf the coastal state on 12th & 13th May, followed by dry weather conditions on 14th & 15th May. The coastal city has also witnessed a considerable dip in maximum temperatures by over 2˚C to 3˚C. As of 11 am today, Goa recorded maximum temperature of 31˚C at Panaji.
