Spree, BITS Goa’s annual mega sports fest is back in town

There’s no denying that college life holds a very special place in our hearts. College is like a Pandora’s box flush with all sorts of experiences, that prepare us for the real world challenges. What better way to get in the spirit of college than sports? With one of the best team building experiences Spree, BITS Goa’s own mega sporting event is back with a bang to get the energy levels high

.

Spree’19, themed as “Vigour. Valour. Victory”, promises excitement from 29th to 31st of March. With this year’s theme, Spree is predestined to enthrall its audience with the quality of the participants for various sports.

Deemed as the biggest sporting event in India, colleges from across the country in major cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Indore and so on, compete to be crowned the champions of this massive event.

Spree is not your average sports festival with only a few widely recognized games. In fact, it supports and gives a platform to players in the budding and upcoming games such as Ultimate Frisbee, Kho Kho, Tug of war, Gully cricket and Futsal. Apart from the niche sports, it also has basketball, cricket, volleyball, badminton, tennis, squash, carom, chess, kabaddi and powerlifting in a highly competitive setting.

Primarily, Spree is a massive sporting event, but it also packs a few other affairs. Participants can get a chance to witness talks and speeches by some of the most renowned sports persons of the country. In the past Spree has hosted sportsmen such as Kapil Dev, Simon Taufel, Abhinav Bindra and many more, who have imparted there wisdom upon the budding players of various sports.

To qualify for the event is no small feat. Teams from colleges across the nation have to go through knockout stages in which 18-20 teams compete against one another and the winner moves forward.

Spree is also well known for it’s philanthropic work. They have been organsing blood donation camps in association with CRY since 2013 and have also set up a fest for differently abled children under the name Udaan. Udaan aims to provide a platform to these children as they give them the opportunity to express themselves through sports. Another drive by them is a 10-km marathon that aims to curb drunk driving and spread awareness about the same.

Additionally, during the three day event, participants can enjoy great live music from renowned DJs and bands. World famous artists like Nucleya and The Train, to name a few of many, have performed in previous editions of Spree.

Spree not only promises three days of fun packed sports events, but also pack in an all inclusive event which caters to everyone’s interest. The affair will be enjoyed by participants as well as onlookers alike, making for a memorable mega sporting event.
