Don Bosco and Chinchinim agricultural club are working towards launching agri-drones in Goa for farming. The technology will revolutionise the way Goans perceive farming right now. Drones will help eliminate manual sprinkling of pest control agents over fields, while also promoting ‘precision farming’. This is a great step towards modernizing farming with new technology.

Initially, agri-drones will be used for spraying fertilisers over paddy fields. Eventually they will be used on cashew and coconut crops.

An agricultural drone is an unmanned, aerial vehicle used for agricultural operations, mostly for monitoring crop growth, crop health, soil variations and to spray fertilisers.

With the current model, soluble products filled in the drone reservoir, can be sprinkled in fields and terrains that are difficult to reach. Even the quantum of product required for a space will be reduced with these service products, by replacing the earlier 70 liters for 20,000 sqm with only 10 liters for the same area.

Once available with the administration, farmers in Goa will be able to rent Argo-drones to spray liquid fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides on their fields. Drones help save time, reduce labour costs and make the entire process cost efficient.

Reportedly, there are many fallow lands in Goa, but due to high labour cost are not being revived. With the introduction of cost efficient drones, people will be motivated to take up cultivation again.
