With a fresh load of 1,992 fresh COVID cases in Goa, the state continued to be under the grip of the pandemic on Sunday. With this, the case positivity rate in the coastal state shot up to 24.76% on January 9, up from 23.75% the day before. As per the reports, Goa's cumulative case count increased to 1,89,909 infections, inching near the 2 lakh mark.

Of the 7,761 samples tested for COVID-19 in Goa, around 1,992 returned positive, pushing the active load to rise up to 9,209 cases. Meanwhile, 261 people were discharged on Sunday, taking the total recuperative tally over 1.17 recoveries. Reportedly, a single virus-related fatality was also added to the day's COVID stats. Toll value in Goa now stands at 3,532.
So far, around 24,88,131 COVID jabs have been administered in the state. This figure is inclusive of around 13,61,729 first and 11,26,402 second doses. The Goa health department has also launched the vaccine benefit for those in 15-17 age category, broadening the scope of COVID immunity here. Additional booster doses are also being administered here and around 1,531 such precautionary third doses have been provided as of date.
