Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has been working towards the adoption of cleaner, solar and efficient lighting across the state, for quite some time now. A significant step in this direction has materialised now, as GEDA and CESL (Convergence Energy Services Limited) have entered an agreement.

This indicates that CESL will now be responsible for the installation of solar PV-based home lighting systems for households in remote locations of the state. This agreement and its implementation, may now inspire other state energy departments to consider a similar energy transition.

Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). As per the agreement, CESL will install and maintain solar PV systems, for a period of five years, in remotely located households that have remained without proper power supply.

This agreement has been signed by the Member-Secretary of GEDA and General Manager of CESL, under the Remote Village Electrification (RVE) programme of the Goa government. This project is CESL's first off-grid electricity project and their General Manager stated the company is proud to be working on it, as energy is the basic need for all houses and for development, read reports.

Further, this project is an important step for India's energy transition and will encourage other state energy departments to follow the lead, as well. Reportedly, according to GEDA, this solar lightning platform is a significant step towards making Goa a green energy state, an effort they have been trying to put in for the benefit of both people and the environment.
