Alerted by early warnings of the Indian Meteorological Department, the Goa government has buckled up its disaster mitigation plans in view of Cyclonic storm Tauktae. As per the current indications, the storm is gaining strength along the western coastline of the country. It has been stated by the Goa branch of the Indian Meteorological Department that a grave cyclonic storm is expected to prevail in the state from May 15 to May 17.

Extensive measures underway to prevent any accidental circumstances

Due to the spiraling weather conditions, lightning, thunder and heavy downpour were observed in the state on Friday. Now, it is anticipated that the winds would blow at a speed of 100 to 175 Km per hour in the 2 days to come. Making a note of this, officials from NDRF have been stationed in the state to evaluate the circumstances and take necessary action.

"A National Disaster Response Force team from Pune has arrived in Goa to assess the situation," a state government official. The Police, Fire and Emergency Department authorities have also been apprised to keep their services ready so that their help can be immediately procured when needed. Further, the district-level disaster management force has been activated to make sure acute interventions can be worked out at the time of requirement.

Next two days crucial for the state

According to the authorities, the storm is expected to intensify in the upcoming two days and necessary steps are required to ward off the possibilities of any untoward circumstances.
