Goa is all set to welcome the new Mopa International Airport in North Goa. This however does not imply that the exiting airport at Dabolim in South Goa will shut down. In the coming years, both airports will function simultaneously and cater to the large tourist footfall entering the state. The new airport is still under construction and is being developed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) at an estimated cost of ₹3,000 crore. The airport is expected to start operations by December, 2022.

The air traffic will be strategically divided between the two airports and it is important for both airports to function for Goa to boost it’s tourism-related operations. The administration also plans to boost the infrastructure of Dabolim Airport in the future to facilitate enhanced technology and higher passenger counts.
