Witnessing the spread of coronavirus infection at an alarming rate, Goa has recorded the highest single-day rise in seven months on Wednesday. With a total of 1,002 fresh COVID cases reported on Wednesday, the active caseload of this viral infection in the coastal state has crossed the 3500-mark now. Marking a spike of 4% from Tuesday, the positivity rate of the state has climbed up to around 17.8% yesterday.

With the addition marked yesterday, the active caseload in Goa has now climbed to 3,718. Notably, during the peak of Delta variant led second-wave of coronavirus, Goa had marked 1,055 fresh cases on May 28, 2021. This is the first time since May that fresh COVID cases have crossed the 1000-mark in the state.
According to reports, with 481cases, Margao has the highest number of active cases at present whereas Panjim with the second-highest caseload stands at 465 active infections. Apart from this, the active caseload is 257 in Porvorim, 219 in Mapusa, 164 in Chimbel, 162 in Siolim, 286 in Cansaulim, 190 in Cortalim and 147 in Ponda.
Meanwhile, raising an alarm for all, the cumulative tally of Omicron, also known as the Variant of Concern by the World Health Organisation has gone up to 11 cases in the coastal state now.
Apart from the rise in cases, the number of patients requiring hospitalisation has also increased in the course of 24 hours. According to reports, 13 COVID positive patients were admitted to GMC's super-speciality block. The rest of the patients with mild symptoms are currently placed under home isolation for ten days.

On Wednesday, a single fatality was reported in the state taking the cumulative toll of death to 3,527. Meanwhile, a total of 46 patients were cured of this viral infection in Goa on Tuesday out of which 11 patients were discharged on Wednesday as well. With this, the total number of recoveries in Goa has gone up to 1,76,551, as of now.
