With the aim of enhancing sustainable living practices and promoting the utilization of green energy, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has launched widespread initiatives across all airports under its jurisdiction.

To date, AAI has successfully equipped a total of 27 airports under its administration with solar power generation equipment. These airports have transitioned to utilizing 100% green energy, with Cochin airport having the distinction of being the first to adopt such sustainable practices.

Now, AAI has given targets to achieve 100% green energy utilization for the remaining airports under its control by 2024.

More about AAI's green initiatives

The authority has already installed Solar Power Plants at various airports including Cochin, Mumbai, Puducherry, Kanpur (Civil), Hubballi among others. These plants have a power output of 54 MWp to date.

In addition, most of the Airports have been given the target of achieving 100% use of green energy by 2023 and net zero by 2030. On the other hand the Ministry of Civil Aviation has advised all operational brownfield airports and upcoming greenfield airports to work towards achieving carbon neutrality.

For this, AAI officials have devised a detailed plan for its operational airports, which includes various initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable practices. These measures include the publication of Energy Intensity Data and a concerted effort to reduce energy intensity for both existing and upcoming airport projects.
