Javelin Legend, Neeraj Chopra is the first Indian to win the Diamond league trophy

The 24-year-old superstar aced the contest in his second attempt with a throw of 88.44 metres.

Neeraj Chopra, the vigorous javelin legend won the Diamond League Championship in Zurich this Thursday. He became the first Indian ever to fetch the much-esteemed Diamond League trophy.

With his fourth-best throw of all time reaching 88.44m he registered a brand new achievement in his arsenal of victories. Although he started with a foul throw, he reached the topmost spot in his second attempt. His other four throws reached 88.00m, 86.11m, 87.00m and 83.60m.

Chopra bagged first place in the league sharing podium with Olympic silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic with a best throw of 86.94m at second place. Julian Webber of Germany was the third with a best throw of 83.73m. Along with the trophy, Chopra was also awarded prize money of $30,000 and a wild card entry for the World Athletics Championship 2023 in Budapest.

Earlier, the athlete made a remarkable return after recovering from a groin injury, by winning the Lausanne-leg of the Diamond League series on August 26 with a throw of 89.08m.

The gifted javelin thrower is now an Olympic Champion, World Championship silver medallist and Diamond League champion, all of which he has achieved in a stretch of 13 months.
