Knock-Knock-Indore

Away from buzzing crowds of Indore, this weekend experience the history of Jahaz Mahal!

Immortalised as a poetical illustration in Fisher's Drawing Room Scrap Book (1832) by Letitia Elizabeth Landon, the Jahaz Mahal of Indore boasts of a splendid, two-storeyed palace situated between two artificial lakes. Built by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Khilji, this architectural marvel is located at a distance of approximately 90 km from the city of Indore. If you are scared of stepping onto real ships, then travel to this Ship Palace this weekend and try out the 'Titanic-pose' as the wind gushes through your hair!

An amalgamation of Afghan, Mughal, Hindu & Mesopotamian architectural styles

Marvellous in terms of engineering, this palace amalgamates the Afghan, Mughal, Hindu and Mesopotamian architectural styles as it emulates the appearance of a mighty ship. Built with meticulous precision to ensure the comfort of the women of Giyas-ud-din Khilji's royal harem of almost 15,000 women, this mahal looks like a ship gently floating above the surface of water. The intricate carvings, sound amplifying balconies and pristine beauty of Jahaz Mahal have turned it into a major tourist attraction.

Know before you go!

The distance between Jahaz Mahal in Mandu and Indore can be traversed easily by road in almost 2 hours. Further, this palace lies in close proximity to other tourists attractions such as Roopmati's Pavilion, Hindola Mahal, Jain Temple and Jami Masjid, among others, that you can take short detours to.
