DEMU trains running from Indore to soon get AC coaches

Aayushi Madavi

Passengers will no longer suffer the wrath of the summer heat as Western Railways have decided to introduce AC Chair-Car (CC) coaches to Mhow-Indore and Mhow-Ratlam DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) trains. As per the officials, no specific date has been shortlisted for the installment of AC coaches. The step is being taken keeping in mind the persisting heatwave like conditions across the state.

Aspects to consider: Profitability & passenger footfall

DEMU trains primarily cater to daily job based commuters travelling between the cities. Based on this, railway officials are still examining the profitability as compared to the cost of installations. According to the reports, 4 AC coaches will be added two the DEMU trains. The new coaches have already reached Mhow Railway Station and are currently waiting to be installed in the workshop.

AC coaches in between these cities will ensure metro train-like comfortable travel. It is also likely that this additional facility will allow more and more passengers to opt for DEMU trains.

Apart from the AC coaches that are yet to be added to the DEMU trains, Western Railways has added extra ordinary coaches in 6 trains initiating from Indore Railway Station and Dr. Ambedkar Nagar railway station. The move was aimed at addressing increase in daily passenger footfall.
