Recently, Indore was the site for a conference held by the Institute of Town Planners India, MP Regional Chapter. The topic of discussion at the event was "Reimagining Urban Planning & Development", which was attended by urban planning experts from various Indian states. Here, a variety of points were raised regarding Indore's connectivity to neighbouring regions, and the way forward with sustainability in mind.

More green cover and innovative planning of the future infrastructure

Among the suggestions made at the event in Indore, expanding the city's green cover to 25%, an increase over the existing 10%, was the highlight while a host of other points were also raised, including setting up of a long-term master development plan for MP's largest city, and the state's commercial capital, with a future forward vision at its core.

One of the attendees also emphasized the importance of planning Indore's urban development while keeping in mind the several challenges that are bound to come up. Issues like the ever-increasing population density and the pressure it puts on the city's civic infrastructure pose as constant hurdles. The role of climate change and the need for sustainable development were also hot topics of discussion at the event.

Indore to take a step towards sustainability

The discussions also pointed out the role that Indore can play in the national economy as it emerges as a metropolitan. The city of Indore, with its booming infrastructure, has been also piped by many as India's next IT hub. With a growing green belt and a focus on sustainable urban planning, the city is taking a decisive step towards a sustainable future.
