DAVV Botanical Garden in Indore to get much needed makeover

Knocksense Staff

One of Indore’s prime tourist spots, the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya Botanical Garden will soon be getting a much needed overhaul. After being neglected for the past several years, the park’s condition has substantially deteriorated and DAVV is taking it in their own hands to get the park back to it’s pristine glory.

The botanical garden spans an area of over 8 acres on Takshila campus. It was created under the wing of the college’s Department of Life Sciences but since it was left unattended, it has now turned into a semi forest area. The goal of the department is to not only improve the garden aesthetically, but to bring it at par with other botanical gardens in the country.

Under the redevelopment plan, they aim to beautify the entire park and plan to sow seeds of a variety of plants. They also aim to sow the seeds alphabetically, meaning that the plants can also be used for navigation around the park. They aim to have shrubs, herbs, bush plants, water plants, semi height trees, climbers and a plethora of other kinds of plants.

Apart from making it an entirely tourist oriented place, they also plan to renovate it in such a manner that it is used by botany students for their research and practical work. Due to this, the plants will be named in their scientific names, English names and colloquial names.

The college authorities have teamed up with another society, the Rose Society who will be lending the college a hand in their overhaul attempt. Work on the redevelopment will begin shortly and we can’t wait to take a stroll in the lush botanical garden.
