Under the Smart City Project, Indore is expected to soon get six new smart parking lots with mechanical/hydraulic parking. Indore Smart City Development Limited has called a second shift of tenders for the six multilevel parking lots.

What’s the update?

Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL), in efforts to help Indore become a smart city and curb the increasing parking and traffic problem, has called for fresh tenders. Under this initiative, smart, hydraulic, multi-level parking lots are to be set at Jawahar Marg, Khajrana Ganesh temple, Veer Savarkar Market, MT Cloth Market, Government School (Bhoi Mohalla) and the Government Unnat School (Mukeripura Masjid).

The Facts

These parking lots would cost a whooping 60 crores and are expected to be the first set of many parking lots ISCDL has planned for Indore. The parking lots will be constructed under PPP (Public Private Partnership).

Why is it important?

Traffic and parking has become one of the major issues, in not just Indore but other big cities as well. Unavailability of better parking spaces leads people to park their vehicles in a haphazard fashion, sometimes along the road-sometimes on it. This becomes one of the biggest reasons for road blocks and slow traffic movement. A parking lot that requires less space and has the capacity to hold many vehicles hence becomes quite important.

Knock Knock

The city has been edging towards its goal to manage traffic and parking spaces better, with several steps including introduction of various other parking lots, renewing the city’s legendary Sarwate Bus Stand. This is another step in the long list of actions taken to achieve the goal of making Indore a smart city by 2021.
