In an attempt to minimise power consumption, Indore Smart City Development Limited (ISCDL) is all set to install solar power plants across the city. In the purview of the green energy project, these solar panels with a capacity of 2 kilowatts will be set up at 100 public and community toilets. As per the officials, this project will be enlisted by ISDCL for carbon credit which can be used to generate revenue by selling it in the global market.

According to the reports, these solar plants will be set up at an estimated cost of about ₹1.25 lakh rupees each. While a few private companies have already shown interest in this initiative, individuals who wish to contribute towards a greener environment can also take part in this project. As per the plans, public lavatories equipped with modern amenities will be taken up first in this initiative.

Notably, on average, public toilets generally require the power of around 3 kilowatts for light, hand dryers, sensor-based flushing systems, water tank refilling and others. With the installation of these solar panels, municipality will not only save power consumption by 70% but also save money by reducing electrictiy bills. Meanwhile, solar power plants have already been installed at Indore Municipal Corporation garbage pickup spots, public gardens and regional parks across the city.
