A historically important place tracing its origin to the era of Holkars, Indore’s Lal Bagh Palace is all set to get a makeover. This archaic building shall be revamped on the lines of the Minto Hall located in Bhopal to boost tourism in the city. State’s Tourism and Culture Minister, along with Water Resource Minister, surveyed the premises on 1 July to ensure that the work for this transition is being smoothly conducted.
Revamping to include a constellation garden
Boosting tourism in Indore is directly related to the proper management and marketing of its heritage spots and one among such places is the Lal Bagh Palace. The almost hundred-year-old archaic building of this palace, also referred to as the ‘Buckingham Palace of Indore’, shall now include a constellation garden and a yoga centre, among other things.
Decorated like Bhopal’s Minto Hall, the upper floor of Lal Bagh Palace will be converted into a guest house for tourists. Financial assistance for making all these changes shall be taken from both the government of Madhya Pradesh and the central government. As of now, ₹9 crores have been invested to fund the refurbishment of furniture, renovation of artefacts and repainting of the palace walls.
Lal Bagh Palace has been labelled as a special monument whose significance spans across the fields of archaeology, architecture and history. Hence, efforts towards its preservation and promotion as the pride of Indore have been employed by the state government.
