Amid rising COVID cases, schools in MP allowed to continue offline classes at 50% capacity

In view of the rising COVID cases in the state, all schools in Madhya Pradesh are allowed to continue in-person classes at their 50% pre-COVID capacity. This directive issued by the Chief Minister of the state on Monday will remain effective until further notice. As per reports, the administration will review the status of the third wave of the pandemic in the next few days to decide the future course of action.

Talking about the decision, the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "Daily Covid cases are increasing fast in Madhya Pradesh. However, we are monitoring the situation carefully and further decisions on putting more restrictions will be taken according to the situation in the coming days. The increasing number of cases in Bhopal, Indore and other districts is obviously a big concern for us, but the overall COVID situation in the state is under control. Schools with 50 per cent seating capacity will be allowed to continue till the next decision is taken after reviewing the situation".

According to the health bulletin issued by the state government on Monday, a total of 2,317 people tested COVID positive, taking the active caseload of the state to 8,599. Notably, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur Ujjain and Gwalior, among others have been reporting more than 75% of the total daily cases in the state. Out of the fresh cases reported on January 10, the maximum number of infections were detected in Indore and Bhopal.

Apart from 645 cases in Indore and Bhopal each, Gwalior reported 291 cases whereas 190 people tested positive for Coronavirus in Jabalpur on the same day. While the daily COVID count in Sagar crossed the 100-mark on Monday by reporting 121 new cases, Ujjain recorded 93 cases as well.

According to reports, the officials in the state secretariat and those in the COVID protection management have been directed by the administration to ensure daily COVID data of the state is collected, prepared and updated regularly.
