The Kamla Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya of Indore indexed three new lion cubs on Monday. Lioness Sundari birthed the three cubs at the Indore zoo at around 12 PM. Reportedly, employees and zoo-keepers are not allowed to go near the cubs for a few days to avoid transmission of infections. Due to this, the gender of the cubs is currently not known to the zoo authorities.
The zoo authorities will constantly monitor the condition and the growth of the cubs. The baby felines will also be named after a couple of months.
Notably, the 5.5-year-old lioness previously delivered a batch of 2 lions, back in 2019, out of which one of the cubs was moved to the Bhopal zoo. Another cub from the litter was exchanged for a lion from the Bhiwani Zoo of Haryana for the change of bloodline.
The number of lions at the Indore Zoo now stands at 15 after the birth of three new cubs. Moreover, while most of the zoos in India have hybrid lions with a mix of both Asiatic and African bloodlines, most of the lions at the Indore zoo are purely from Asiatic breeds.
