Indore's roads witnessed a crackdown as the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and traffic police jointly conducted surprise inspections on school and passenger buses for the third consecutive day. The officials carried out thorough checks on over 65 buses, focussing on permits, insurance, PUC certificates, overloading, speeding and prohibited equipment.

A staggering fine of ₹95 lakh, under the Motor Vehicles Act, was imposed on violating vehicles. Notably, one bus was seized for lacking a permit and another, on the Indore-Ujjain Road, was confiscated for carrying goods on the roof.

The rigorous drive, implementing random checks citywide, aims at enhancing safety on roads and preventing mishaps. Additionally, the RTO initiated road safety awareness programmes in colleges, issuing learning licenses to over 250 female students and organising camps for further outreach until January 17. Forthcoming events include a bike rally on January 14 to promote road safety.
