The 1st train on the newly electrified Dhigawara-Bandikui section flagged off in Rajasthan

The electrification of trains will eliminate the dependence on diesel trains and will also help in reducing pollution.

The first train on the newly electrified Dhigawara-Bandikui section of North Western Railways was flagged off by the Railway Minister on Sunday. The route from Rewari to Ajmer has now been electrified and soon, the Delhi-Ajmer route via Jaipur will also have electrified trains. The electrification of trains will eliminate the dependence on diesel trains and subsequently, reduce pollution and dependency on imported fuel as well.

CORE is responsible for the electrification

Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE), Prayagraj, is responsible for the electrification of these trains. CORE sanctioned the electrification of Delhi Sarai Rohilla- Madar (Ajmer) and handed it over to rail electrification project, Jaipur. Reportedly, the electrification of the Delhi Sarai Rohilla- Madar (Ajmer) route is slated to have 23,418 foundations, 26 switching stations, 6 traction sub-stations and 7 overhead equipment (OHE) depots.

Complete electrification by December 2023

As per reports, around 66% of the broad gauge has already been electrified with a target to electrify around 28,143 km of railway track by December 2023. According to the railway ministry, the Indian Railways has set a target of December 2023 to complete electrification of its broad gauge network. The electrification will help in increasing the average speed of trains and act as a push to movement of goods for industries and agro-based businesses.
