Many parts of Rajasthan witness slight drop in temperatures, bringing in great respite for citizens

Bringing in a respite for the people of Rajasthan from the sizzling heatwave that has been hitting several parts of the state for the last few days, the temperature in various parts of the state recorded a slight dip today. Heatwave like conditions that persisted in the state also impacted the lives, crops, and power supply. Coming down a few degrees from last week’s temperature of 47°C, Rajasthan recorded a 2˚C-3°C dip this week.

The temperature in Jaipur marginally decreased from 44°C on 12th May to 43°C on 18th May. Whereas Jaisalmer and Sri Ganganagar recorded 41.2°C on 18th May, marking a huge dip from last week’s tally of 45.9°C and 45.2°C respectively.

According to the 10-day forecast released by IMD, temperatures in the state will continue to to hover around 38˚C to 41°C for the next 3 days, after which they are likely to rise again. The IMD has also predicted winds around Jaipur for the next week.

In a bid to ease the effect of the scorching sun, on Monday, the Fire department of Municipal Corporation Greater and Heritage sprinkled water on the roads in pockets of the state experiencing a severe heatwave. Huge fire brigade vehicles were used in Jaipur, to sprinkle water in areas of JLN Marg, Sahakar Marg, Tonk Road, and Sitapura among others.

Additionally, various other techniques are being used in Jaipur and other Rajasthan districts including, Jodhpur, Churu and Sikar. Such techniques that uses sprinklers or tankers are aimed at maintaining the micro environment of cool.
