7 October plans for when Kanpur’s weather is too good to stay in

Catch the sun while it lasts.

Khushboo Ali

October is almost over, and Kanpur’s weather couldn’t have picked a better time to get this nice! The sun is finally bearable, the evenings feel lovely, and stepping out doesn’t mean sweating the moment you leave home. Basically, the kind of weather that makes you want to call your friends, grab your scooty keys and make plans. Here are 7 ways to make the most of these lovely October days before the weather changes its mind again!

Head to Nana Rao Park before 8 AM

That rare hour when Kanpur slows down, the air feels a little fresher, and the morning light makes everything look prettier. You’ll find joggers, uncles in their white sneakers and regular morning walkers already making their rounds, but that’s all part of the charm. Lace up, grab a coffee or just take a slow walk and enjoy the city before the daily rush kicks in.

Explore All Souls’ Cathedral, on foot

Take a slow walk around All Souls’ Cathedral and admire its striking red-brick Gothic architecture, tucked away in the middle of Kanpur. With its pointed arches, old-world charm and a history that goes back to the British era, this is one of those landmarks you might have passed countless times without really stopping to look.

Pack a picnic to Kanpur Zoo

The green lawns around the lake make for a lovely spot to slow down and spend some quality time with the family. Pack more food than you think you’ll need, spread out a mat, bring along some games and let the kids enjoy the open space while you catch up with everyone over homemade snacks. You can stroll around the zoo, spot its feathered residents from a distance and make an easy afternoon of it.

Plan an Al fresco brunch plans

For most of the year, the best table in Kanpur is the one closest to the AC, but October finally gives you a reason to pick the outdoor seating. Head to a café like Lush Garden or Meraki, find a cosy corner in the open air and order the slowest thing on the menu. Think leisurely bites, long conversations, a little sunshine and absolutely no reason to check the time every five minutes.

Scooty ride to Ganga Barrage

Some plans don’t need a destination checklist, a packed schedule or a group chat with 47 unread messages. Just pick a pleasant morning or late afternoon, hop on your scooty, grab your helmet and head towards Ganga Barrage. With open stretches of road, expansive views of the river and a welcome break from the city’s usual traffic, the ride itself becomes half the fun. Take your time, stop at a safe spot to enjoy the view and click a few pictures if the light is just right.

Catch the sunset at Sarsaiya Ghat

There’s something about watching the sun go down by the Ganga that makes even an ordinary weekday feel a little special. As the evening light turns the river copper and the day’s rush begins to settle, Sarsaiya Ghat offers a lovely excuse to slow down for a while. Take a leisurely walk along the riverfront, sit for a bit and watch the changing colours of the sky, or bring along a friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with for weeks.

Take a chaat-and-chai crawl through Parade

October is the perfect excuse to ditch the usual dinner plans and let your cravings take the lead. Start with a plate of spicy aloo tikki or tangy chaat from one of Parade’s street-side stalls, then follow the smell of the next tempting snack because one plate is rarely enough. Keep wandering, try something you haven’t ordered in ages, and make room for that extra samosa you absolutely didn’t plan on eating.
