With the Kanpur Metro extended corridor set to open for public in just a few days, UPMRC is working tirelessly to finalise the project. Starting January 15, the metro will offer connectivity between IIT Kanpur and Central Railway Station.
Currently operational between IIT Kanpur and the Motijheel elevated corridor, the extension includes new underground stations at Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayanganj, and Kanpur Central. Ahead of the service launch, Kanpur Metro authorities have shared a series of updates regarding the extension.
This expansion will extend the metro corridor to a total length of 15 km, with a one-way journey taking just 30 minutes between IIT Kanpur and Kanpur Central stations. This makes the metro the fastest mode of travel on this route, with the journey costing an affordable ₹40.
Regular commuters can further benefit by opting for the NCMC card membership, which includes a 10% fare waiver for cardholders.
In terms of technological advancements, the Kanpur Metro extended service will feature an advanced railway power supply system known as the third rail. This system operates on a 750-volt DC setup equipped along parallel tracks, ensuring enhanced operational efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements.
