Providing a tremendous boost to Uttar Pradesh's economy, the 380 km long Ghaziabad to Kanpur Expressway, connecting nine UP districts is expected to soon gather steam. As per reports, the Union Road and Transport Highways ministry has asked for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) so that the project is approved and gains momentum quickly.

The economic corridor was announced by the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry in September 2019.

Here’s all you need to know about the highway

The expressway will provide major boosts to the industrial sector by easing transportation and providing direct connectivity between Ghaziabad and Kanpur. Apart from this, development of industrial areas on both sides of the expressway will also generate employment opportunities. Here are all key points about the upcoming highway:

  • Connecting two industrial hubs, the highway is expected to reduce travel time between Ghaziabad and Kanpur to nearly 3 hours. Currently, it takes around 6 hours to reach Kanpur from Ghaziabad via the Yamuna Expressway and 8 hours via the NH-9 route.

  • The 380 km long highway is a greenfield construction, which means it will be built from scratch. The expressway will be a 4 lane road, expanded to six lanes at underpasses and crossings of waterways.

  • Apart from the above two, the highway will connect through 7 more UP districts including Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kannauj and Unnao.

  • As soon as the DPR is received, authorise plan to begin land acquisition process.

The highway construction is expected to take around two years.
