IIT Kanpur will soon have India's largest Unmanned Aerial Systems testing facility. To be established at a cost of ₹60 crore, this facility will be built by the partnership of EndureAir Systems, a private entity, with five DPSUs (Defense Public Sector Undertakings).

The partnering DPSUs for this large-scale project include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Yantra India Limited (YIL), Gliders India Limited (GIL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

What will this upcoming facility at IIT-K feature?

This planned facility at IIT Kanpur will have the resources to conduct a wide variety of tests on UAVs. These will include electromagnetic compatibility testing, motor testing, harshness and soft vibration testing, and more.

Becoming India's first such facility at an academic institute, it will also have 1 km long runway for testing purposes. The flight laboratory at IIT-K will be the site for all the testing that will take place once this facility is built and becomes operational.
