In an effort to keep up with the rising demand in the technology industry, IIT Kanpur has approved two new MTech programs, one each in Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering and Cognitive Systems. The two new programs will help the prestigious institute help the students excel in the field of cognitive sciences and drone technology.

On the mission of building India's capacity in drone technology

The newly approved Unmanned Aerial Systems Engineering program at IIT Kanpur makes it the first Indian institute to offer a dedicated MTech program in the field of drone technology. Commenting on the decision, Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director of the institute, said that the program will help the country create leaders in drone technology and is in line with India's nationwide initiative to become more capable in the field.

The cognitive systems program, on the other hand, will come under the Department of Cognitive sciences at IIT Kanpur. It must be noted that the said department, which was launched in December 2020, makes the institute the only IIT in India to have a dedicated department in the field. The new program, will add to the department's ability to help students get a clearer understanding of the human mind.
