India's premier institute, IIT Kanpur, has recently launched several initiatives to benefit their students and promote research, advancing technology across various fields.

To begin with, the university organized a 3-day workshop tailored for their Ph.D., M.Sc., and undergraduate students. This workshop was specifically curated by the Aditya L1 Mission Support Cell at the Aryabhatta Observational Science Research Institute in Nainital.

More about Aditya L1 team's workshop

The mission, which marked India's first endeavor in this field, was primarily conducted by ISRO. As part of this mission, a specialized satellite was launched for research related to the observation and study of the solar atmosphere.

During the workshop, jointly organized by the Aditya L1 Support Cell team and IITK's physics department, students were granted access to the data received from the satellite.

AI to be used for quality testing of parachutes to reduce human errors

Secondly, as an initiative to benefit the defence sector of India, IIT Kanpur along with IIT Delhi has signed an MoU with defence PSU, Gliders India Limited to enhance the design and functioning of parachutes.

Reportedly, both the tech institutes will use their self-designed AI for testing of parachutes. The adoption of AI for quality control during testing will diminish the potential for human errors.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Gliders India Limited (GIL), elucidated that with support from IIT Kanpur's startup incubation center and the Ministry of Defence's iDEX platform, startup companies will contribute to innovative parachute production, enabling India to solidify its strong presence in the global market.
