In a record-breaking feat, IIT Kanpur files 122 Intellectual Property Rights in 2023

If there was something to describe entering 2024 in style in the tech and innovation world, it would be this! In a noteworthy feat, IIT Kanpur has filed 122 Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in 2023 - highest in the calendar year.

This is the third time in a row that the eminent institution has bagged this milestone. The achievement also enhanced licensing rate to 14% for industry partners this year, bringing the total to 1,039 IPRs to date.

Throwing light on the advanced research, innovation and technology transfer carried out at the institute, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), Professor S Ganesh stated, “The institute’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of research and technology has resulted in this record-breaking number of IPRs and positioned the institute as a leader in driving positive change through intellectual contributions.”

The IPRs filed comprise 108 patents, four design registrations, three copyrights, and one trademark application. It also includes four US and two China patents. "The year also saw 167 IPRs being granted with 15 technologies licensed," IITK took to X to announce.
