Jaisaramau Wetlands: Kanpur's quietest corner is about to become its loudest story!

This one's for the birds, and honestly, for all of us.

Khushboo Ali

Jaisaramau, located in the Katri area near Bilhaur in Kanpur district, is set to receive a boost under Uttar Pradesh’s ‘One District, One Wetland’ initiative. Spread across six hectares, this Ganga-fed wetland is home to over 150 bird species, including Little Cormorants, Purple Herons, Great Egrets and peacocks, making it an ecologically significant site in the region.

Under the initiative, the wetland is being developed with a ₹1 crore plan that includes bird-watching trails, nature walkways and watch towers. The aim is to secure a national wetland tag while promoting eco-tourism and creating livelihood opportunities for local communities.

Jaisaramau is just getting started

Moreover, right next to the Jaisermau is the Gangeshwar Ashram, which sees a flood of devotees during Mahashivratri. So imagine this, prasad in one hand, binoculars in the other. Spiritual tourism meets birdwatching. Kanpur, you're evolving.

The District Magistrate puts it simply, this isn't just about saving a wetland. It's about giving locals jobs, putting the village on the map, and proving that conservation can actually be cool.

Jaisaramau was always ready, Kanpur just caught up

Kanpur's loudest stories were never its best ones. Jaisaramau has been here all along, birds calling, butterflies drifting, the Ganga quietly keeping it alive, no announcements, no fanfare. Now with trails, watch towers, and a community set to grow around it, it's getting the recognition it always deserved. Some places don't need to try hard to be beautiful. Jaisaramau never did. You just had to show up.
