In an astonishing turn of events, a 5-year-old student from a private school in Azad Nagar, Kanpur, has taken legal action against a liquor shop located near his educational institution. The young petitioner has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the district court, aiming for the removal of the establishment.

In the PIL submitted, the petitioner articulated the disruption caused by individuals engaging in unruly behavior following alcohol consumption near the school premises.

Notably, under Rule 5(4) of the Excise Shop Rules 1968, there is a prohibition on opening a shop near places like schools, hospitals, places of worship, factories or residential colonies. The court has asked the state government counsel to find out why the license for a liquor shop in Kanpur was renewed despite the presence of a school nearby.
