The construction of 23 km long Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project (IIT to Naubasta) is in progress. Moving up the ladder, the UPMRCL has finally completed the tunnelling of an 84-meter of underground metro rail section.

The Corridor-1 has a 4 km long underground section between Chunniganj to Nayaganj where the tunnelling process is being conducted with the help of a Tunnel Boring Machine.

Since July 4, 60 rings in the tunnel have been installed. Due to this, the TBM will be able to move at a speed of about 12 to 15 meters per day. Furthermore, a total of 940 meters long tunnel will be constructed from Bada Chauraha to Nayaganj. Beyond this, about 5 km long elevated section from Baradevi to Naubasta will be constructed.
