The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has transferred the license of one of its pioneering technologies to Reliance Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd. The gene therapy technology from IIT Kanpur, which can prove to be immensely helpful for those with genetic disorders, will now be developed by Reliance as an indigenous product.

What is IIT Kanpur's gene therapy technology?

The said gene therapy technology is developed by Prof. Jayandharan Giridhari Rao and Prof. Shubham Maurya. What this patented technology does is modify a faulty gene of an organism in order to treat a slew of genetic disorders, proving to be especially effective in treating inherited eye-related diseases like Leber congenital amaurosis and Retinitis pigmentosa.
