Knocksense Shorts| Traffic completely shut on Kanpur-Unnao Ganga Pull

Muskaan Tekwani

A poignant chapter of Kanpur history and heritage, the 146-year-old-Ganga Pull has been officially shut for all cyclists and pedestrians. The PWD on Wednesday issued an order to completely seal and shut the bridge after a collapse mishap. As per reports, the upper part of the 10th Kothi or pillar from Kanpur's entry side fell off, resulting in a complete ban on movement here.

The Kanpur-Unnao Ganga Pull was first shut in April 2021 for all vehicles except bicycles, after around 4 new cracks were reported. Repair teams from Kanpur, Lucknow and Delhi also visited and inspected the site and labelled the bridge unfit to bear any vehicular load.

Now, with the recent collapse report, the PWD has ordained the Ganga Pill shut completely. Not even those on foot or on cycles are now permitted to use this stretch.
